Frequently Asked Questions

Picture
Is the expo dog friendly?
In general, animals are not allowed inside the Expo buildings.
Because the event is held at the State Fairgrounds and involves large crowds, only specific animals are permitted.
What animals are allowed inside the Expo?
Only the following animals are allowed inside the buildings:
  • Service animals, as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
  • Dogs that are officially registered and credentialed to participate in the Doc Dogs competition
No other animals are permitted inside.
What is considered a service animal?
A service animal is a dog that is individually trained to perform a specific task for a person with a disability.
Service animals are working animals and are not pets.
Are emotional support animals or therapy dogs allowed?
No. Emotional support animals, comfort animals, and therapy animals are not considered service animals for public access and are treated as pets for entry purposes. Pets are not allowed inside the Expo buildings.
Can I bring my hunting dog, duck dog, or sporting dog?
No. We understand many attendees have well-trained hunting and sporting dogs, but hunting dogs and sporting dogs are not allowed inside the buildings unless they are:
  • A legal service animal, or
  • Officially registered with the Doc Dogs competition

Does my service animal need special paperwork or registration?
No. Service animals are not required to have special documentation, ID cards, vests, or registration.
If it is not obvious that a dog is a service animal, staff may ask limited questions allowed by law to confirm that the dog qualifies.
Are service animals required to be on a leash?
Service animals must be under the handler’s control at all times. This usually means the dog is leashed, harnessed, or tethered, unless doing so would interfere with the task the dog is trained to perform.
Can a service animal ever be asked to leave?
Yes, but only in limited situations. A service animal may be asked to leave if:
  • The dog is out of control and the handler does not take effective action to correct it, or
  • The dog is not housebroken

Why does the Expo have this policy?
This policy helps protect:
  • Guests and exhibitors
  • Working service animals
  • Competing Doc Dogs
  • The safety and accessibility of a high-traffic public event
